120th anniversary of suffrage

New Zealand women won the right to vote on 19 September 1893. 2013 marked 120 years of suffrage for women.

The Minister of Women’s Affairs, Hon Jo Goodhew, hosted three events to celebrate and commemorate this significant anniversary for our nation.

The events, hosted in Auckland, Christchurch and Wellington, were opportunities to recognise and honour the brave women and men who were world leaders 120 years ago and to encourage all New Zealanders to take action to improve the lives of women in the future.
