The 120th anniversary of women voting for the first time in New Zealand was celebrated at a function at Premier House, Wellington, on 28 November 2013. The event was hosted by the Prime Minister Rt Hon John Key and Minister of Women’s Affairs Hon Jo Goodhew.
The event was attended by emerging leaders and representatives of secondary schools.
The focus of the celebration was to inspire women to take up roles in decision-making and leadership.
The inspiring keynote speakers were Mary Fisher, Paralympian, Mahia Bennett from Infratrain New Zealand, and Dr Assil Russell, Dental Surgeon and Director of Iraqi Children’s Aid and Repair Endeavour.
