Waikato 125 aims to identify and celebrate the achievements of women in the Waikato from the past to the present through historical stories, video and a special event on the 19th of September.
A lullaby competition open to all New Zealanders, with the music to be set to the suffrage poem ‘A Lullaby’ by Thomas Bracken. The winning entry is to be gifted to Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern.
To celebrate 125 years since the Suffragists’ historic victory we are calling on young women in Year 13 (in Auckland and Northland region) to share their views on what this movement means to them.
The town of Katikati is excited to be holding a Suffrage 125 Commemoration day. Events begin with a march through town in period costume where we will meet Helen Clark who is our guest speaker.
The Suffrage 125 celebration is being led by the Ministry for Women, New Zealand Minitatanga mō ngā Wahine in partnership with Manatū Taonga Ministry for Culture and Heritage.
