About the Council

The National Advisory Council on the Employment of Women ('the Council') is an advisory body to the Minister for Women. The Council holds quarterly meetings in Wellington with sub-groups meeting to progress particular projects between meetings. The Council receives administrative and advisory support from the Ministry for Women.

The Council's role is to:

  • advise the Minister for Women on matters referred by her/him concerning the employment of women;
  • express views and make recommendations as appropriate to the Minister for Women on matters relating to the employment of women;
  • make representations or submissions as appropriate to public bodies such as Commissions of Inquiry subject to the approval of the Minister; and
  • promote the dissemination of information on the employment of women in New Zealand and overseas
