More than 125 years ago, New Zealand women were vigorously campaigning to achieve the right to vote and would finally win that right in September of 1893.
Now, as we remember, celebrate and look to the future, the Ministry for Women was proud to be coordinating activities and events which marked this significant milestone. These celebrations recognised New Zealanders from diverse cultural backgrounds that have contributed to progressing women’s rights.
Two infographics highlighting progress since New Zealand women achieved suffrage with a timeline of milestones for women, and an snapshot of milestones from the suffrage era to present, were developed to support Suffrage Day 2018.
